First off, the total trip is 40 km and should be 40 km on my strava link. However, my Suunto watch recorded a 1 second kilometre for kilometre 6, so the data is slightly off, including the map. Nonetheless, I completed the out and back course in 4 hours, 28 minutes, and 25 seconds and there were people there who witnessed it, so I am really hoping that this FKT gets approved.
Now for the fun stuff - the race report!!!
I am from Saskatchewan and noticed that there was only one FKT in the whole province (I believe there has been another one added recently), so I knew that I had to attempt it. We drove the 5 hours, slept in the car, and then I set off around 6:30 am. The trail is full of roots, rocks, and mud, with a few fallen trees here and there. I cruised through the first part and had great weather. There is a beach crossing and the lake views are wonderful! I waved at the campers at their campsites as I went along, and luckily saw none of the 3 'bears of concern' along the way. I reached the cabin at a slower time than I wanted to, so I picked up the pace and headed back after a 3 minute sock-changing break. I sprinted for the final kilometre to get under 4 and a half hours, and was excited to see that the knocked the previous record out of the park - yahoo!
