Two quick notes:  1) There appears to be some kind of GPS interference either with Garmin's recent hacker issues or this route.  Nathaniels new mens record from ealier in the week recorded as a mile short.  I ran the entire way with Michelle and my watch was 2 miles short (same watch I wore when setting the FKT last summer but 2 miles shorter).  Michelles mileage was correct but the map on strava doesn't show the loop connecting.  I ran the entire way with Michelle (she led the way) and the route was 100% correct.  2)  There is a Strava segment for the loop that doesn't count the out and back portion.  Nathaniel's GPS didn't pick up this segment because of a turn approximately 2 miles in.  It appeared to be cutting off a portion of the trail.  When Michelle and I hit this junction the obvious path is what Nathaniel took, a left turn.  The history of the route and what's shown on maps is going straight here and immediately down the hill on what looks like a "lesser used" path.  However, there is a blue marker on the "shortcut" which seems to indicate either trail could be used?  Michelle took the "standard" path.  For future FKT attempts an athlete will have to determine which turn to make here.  The history/standard is probably 200 meters longer but turning left is blazed as the Manistee River Trail as well. This is probably the most scenic and awesome trail in lower Michigan.
