I was originally planning on attempting this on Saturday but the weather was perfect on Friday so I finished up a couple work meetings and was on the trail by 11:03. Temp was in the mid-50's, sunny, with a light wind out of the North. The trail was firm and the first 15 miles flew by, maybe a bit to quick because by mile 21 I knew that the sun and 60 degree temps were going to take their toll on me in the later miles since the trail is pretty wide open out from Scandinavia to Ogdensburg. About mile 27 the trail got a bit rough from a lot of horse hoof marks and some sore quads on my part. I was able to slog through the last couple miles to finish in a time of 4hours, 42 minutes, and 13 seconds. Overall I thought I could run it a bit faster but I'll just have to come back and try again.
I did this completely unsupported - carried everything on my person, drove myself to the start and was picked up a bit after I finished the run. I ran with 85 oz of Skratch Super High Carb mix, 15 oz of Liquid IV, and 12 oz of Gatorade fast twitch. For solid foods I ate 2 packages of Honey Stinger Caffeine energy chews, and 1 package of Honey Stinger non-caffeinated energy chews.
One of the interesting things I found is that even though this a flat run every ascent and descent was very noticeable in the legs and heartrate even though they were virtually non-existent visually. Also the fall colors and the bird murmurations were at peak levels so that was an added bonus!
