After my partner and I completed the route for the mixed team FKT earlier this year, I wanted to have a go at a solo attempt to see if I could bring down the women's time.
Despite waiting nearly 3 1/2 months since my last attempt, I still remembered the route fairly well and managed not to get lost at all, which was a huge bonus. On the downside, my first time running the route was in a particularly cold snap so the ground was solid for almost the entire route, a huge contrast to the knee deep mud I was met with this time after the recent rain! Carried my own nutrition for the run and stopped in at Asda to pick up some lunch before hopping on the bus back to Cardiff.
My only goals for the run were to see if I could finish sub-4, to try and take some more time off the Strava segment crown on the final hill up to the golf course, and to enjoy a weekday adventure - couldn't be much happier with the result :)
