5:12am start under the Sagamore Bridge. My backpack was loaded with all fuel for the trip, three hours of hydration and other essentials. Ran through Bourne and Sandwich with a red sunrise over the bay, then through Barnstable which felt old and historic. Resupplied with a liter of water at Dennis Public Market. About 10 miles of on and off sidewalk running to the next stop at Cumberland Farms for another liter of water. Shortly after leaving there picked up the Cape Cod Rail Trail. It was nice to get off the road/sidewalk but it was a long stretch of straightness and monotony. Hit a bit of a low point just before leaving the CCRT and hopping on to Route 6. Grabbed another liter of water at Shell in Wellfleet and ran along Route 6 which was unglamorous but having to pay attention to all of the cars was a welcomed distraction from CCRT. The final section turns off Route 6 and back onto 6A through Truro and into Ptown. I approached the final store for a water stop, Salty Market, to find it closed. Not surprising given it’s a beach town and in hindsight should have had a backup plan. I had already been running with no water for 15 minutes. Downtown Ptown was the next opportunity for water and was still an hour away so had to slow down pace to not blow up. Made it to downtown Ptown and grabbed a water and lemonade that got me the rest of the way. Hit the jetty and about quarter of the way I realized the tide was so low I probably could cut through the bay directly to the lighthouse but stayed on to honor the route. Hopped off the jetty onto the beach and ran the mile to the lighthouse for the finish.
