Report

On the 06/09/25 I set out to complete the snowdonia slate trail.

I started the round at 6am with the support of my wife meeting me at various road crossings along the route to re supply with fluid and gels, and strategically change shoes due to 4 severely boggy sections.

Weather on the day was dry and warm, but quite windy making some sections challenging. Due to the warmer weather I experienced severe cramping from Rhyd Ddu onwards, slowing the pace espesially on the decent's. The cramp also made changing shoes and socks very difficult and painful.

I took a fall at one point when my feet slipped under me while I was planning my route through a field of cows. With a bump to the right side and a cut to the hand I kept going. I did worry about the severity of the cut, but it luckily stopped bleeding by the time I reached my next support point.

To keep things interesting I got caught up in an organised ultra From Penmachno to Ogwen. The runners were going in the opposite direction to me which made some tight single track tricky while trying to pass, and made getting into a rhythm difficult.

Fluids were a mix of electrolytes, cola, squash and red bull. And for nutrition I relied mainly on gels, with a few pieces of water melon and pineapple for something refreshing.
