Report

I started the ascent from the Limpiopungo parking lot at 09:23 AM under overcast conditions. The cloud cover remained thick throughout the effort, maintaining high humidity and cool temperatures, which was beneficial for hydration management but required careful navigation in the upper rocky sections due to limited visibility.

The terrain was typical for the Rumiñahui: a mix of paramo grass followed by the long volcanic scree slope (el acarreo). Due to the moisture from the clouds, the scree was slightly more compacted than usual, allowing for a consistent climbing rhythm. I reached the summit of Rumiñahui Central by navigating the final scrambling section with caution.

Nutrition & Gear: I carried a minimal kit to prioritize speed:

  • Hydration: 1 liter of water.

  • Fuel: 3 energy gels, 1 banana, and 1 protein bar.

  • Apparel: Light windbreaker and trail shoes with aggressive lugs for the scree.

The descent was done via the same route. This was a solo effort to establish/break a personal best on this specific peak.
