A very scenic run with its start and finish point at the parking of Lagoa do Canario. Although it is not a very technical trail (for the most part you run on a kind of gravel road) it offers spectacular views over the Lagoa Azul on the left and the coastal areas of Sao Miguel Island on your right.
I only encountered very few hikers and farmers, overall it´s a very quiet trail. After an initial climb to the highest point (Pico da Cruz) you will find a pretty long stretch of downhill, interrupted by a short counter inclines before you eventually have to do the final long uphill again back to the starting point.
There is nowhere to refill your water on the way so beware of that if you decide to run in the mid day heat. I carried two water flasks with me which I barely touched (9am-11am).
