Only having one week of vacation in the Val di Fiemme and with bad weather looming, we had a very short time window to make this happen. After a quick preparation we set off from Passo Rolle early in the morning on October 17th. As all the huts were already closed, we planned on an unsupported run, carrying all of our food and water (we knew there would be a water tap on Passo Manghen and we also filled our water bottles at the natural stream near Rifugio Caurel).

We had a wonderful time for 80% of the route, enjoying the amazingly technical terrain and the ruggedness of the landscape. Routefinding was relatively easy and we both agreed that in terms of the weather, we were very lucky. The sun was shining but it was never hot. The usually muddy decent to Caurel was frozen.

While we hoped to be a bit faster, we faced some health issues in the final bit of the route, significantly slowing us down. The temperature also dropped to freezing so we focused on moving and staying warm and safe, rather than aiming for a fast FKT. We finished on Panarotta in the night of October 18th, where we spent a really cold night in our bivy as our car was still on Passo Rolle.

This route is an absolute gem and apart from the personal challenges we faced in the final part of the route it's a great memory for both of us. Logistically it's a bit challenging to work with one car (it took us a full day to hitchhike / take public transport / bike back to our car) - although it might be easier to do so in high season.
