Cody Kleven and I started on the Badger State Trail at the Illinois border where the trail starts heading South to North at 5:21 am on November 7th, 2020. We each carried our own water and fuel. I had 34 oz of water and consumed 850 calories throughout. We stopped every 10 miles to walk and eat. The day was gorgeous, but traveling South to North it is a net uphill of about 700 ft.
The Stewart Tunnel outside of Belleville is impassable, it is locked at the entrance and no way through. We took the aforementioned detour. We did not refuel along the way and there is not an opportunity to refill water unless you go off course to a gas station.
