Succeeded! A bit slower than hoped for and with some unexpected challenges, although that's exactly what is to be expected for these kind of routes.

I started Saturday evening half hour after sunset (2026-10-10 19:30ish) at the 73k point of the long route of the Walk of Wisdom. Point was chosen based on some logistical considerations but also to aim to do the hilly, forest sections starting from Ooij in daylight. Did the 'normal' clock-wise direction. No spectators, no company while moving at any section. Only used the public water taps available on the street 24/7.

For supplying I brought all expected food with me and water enough till Ravenstein. Though there would be a tap in Grave, I wanted some redundancy and I kept the strategy to refill up to a full 2l at every public waterpoint, except for the final stages. NB I found all waterpoints functional, only the one at Dijkmagazijn I couldn't find in the dark. Was not a real problem as I knew I would be able to find one in Nijmegen. Also tried to identify up-front when the public waterpoints would close for winter, but this information is hard to find. Most likely estimate, first week November, based on older notification by water companies. Not sure if that's still the policy. I even gave one a call upfront, but the nice lady on the phone had no clue what I was talking about...

Did the route based on GPX and signage. Mainly GPX, but it diverted at a few points from the signs. At one point (just after Hernen) the track was closed because of forestry work and there was a small diversion in place. Decided to ignore as nobody would be cutting down a tree middle of the night anyway, but stumbled on a very convincing tempory fence, see picture. At two locations (Jachtslot and somewhere the Jansberg) the gpx track follows a permanently closed path and the sign at Jansberg points you to a new route, at Jachtslot you have to improvise, but it's quite obvious where to go over there. These changes were both very small in terms of distance, possibly a bit longer rather than shorter. At some point in the Ooij there is a track up the dike indicated by a WoW sign, that I later found to be a tiny shortcut from the gpx. That's the only diversion I'm aware of that could have been avoided. At one point in Ooij I also needed to sidestep the track and pick it up about 20m later. Tried to convince the huge cow blocking the track completely to let me pass, didn't budge. In Heumensoord I ignored the sign for a longer stretch to follow the gpx strictly. I now know why they changed the signage, the gpx takes you through a quite muddy section as it's also the track for horses. Unrelated, I hope I followed the exact track in Nijmegen, signage is lacking around the Stevenskerk and my gps watch got a bit lost with all the buildings around it.

Apart from those routing details, things worked out more or less according to plan. Had some challenges with running itself quite early on route, but after 55km that changed for the better. Probably because the track becomes more and more trail compared to the long pavement sections between Grave and Ewijk, which is more according to what I'm used to. From there up to De Diepen things went more or less okayish, running became gradually more challenging and slow, which is not surprising and after De Diepen and changed my strategy into brisk walking ony. No point in burning more energy than needed if the running doesn't add any additional speed anyway.

Had to execute some mental tricks to pass the 3.5k between Elshof and the offroad section leading to Hatertse Vennen, what a grind! In the end finished shortly before ten on Sunday (2026-10-11 21:45ish). Overall, broke my personal distance record and a very nice and varied tour!
