I attempted the Huayhuash Circuit FKT over three days from July 23 to July 25, 2026 starting and ending at Llamac. Day 1 I went to Laguna Carhuacocha over the course of 45 kilometers, day 2 I went most of the way to Huayllapa over the course of 43 kilometers, and day 3 I returned to Llamac over the course of 39 kilometers.
I originally planned on attempting this FKT in the self-supported category, but I never ran out of food and didn’t end up resupplying in Huayllapa. I camped both nights in my ultralight Laurel Mountain Designs pyramid tent. Dinners were cold soaked ramen both nights. I did not bring a stove. Day 1, I started strong but hydrated poorly throughout the day, as there were less streams than I anticipated. Day 2, I felt very weak to start but hydrated and fueled throughout the morning and felt strong by midday. Day 3 I worked well with the remaining food I had and moved well, though I started about an hour later than expected at 6:50 am due to sleeping through my alarm. I moved almost exclusively in the daylight with the exception of about 30 minutes at the end of Day 2. A simple way to beat this FKT is to move at night.
