The Great Ocean Road was a humbling experience for me. I set out with a time of 48 hours as a target but after the steep incline on the start of day 2 I had to take a knee to the injury I had picked up and rest for most of the day.
day one felt like a fever dream, the views, beaches, people. It all went by so fast and without any issues.
day two started the downhill trajectory of my run. It was massive inclines and steep declines the forests and on winding roads. I hadn’t prepared myself for the toll my body would take on this at all.
day three I started to feel better. We still had massive inclines to get through but we managed them. We got back to a running pace and really cut through some mileage before the night fall and all of my blisters decided to pop at once.
day four saw me shut everything out and just move. I knew I didn’t have far left and I was determined to get it finished despite the state my body was in. Running became nearly impossible but we shuffled our way to the end despite nearly being taken out by far to many trucks.
all in all the experience was amazing, one I’d definitely recommend to anyone who loves a long distance and elevation. Some advice would be to stack up in as much food as you can, my partner in the camper had to go and do a few shop runs as our supplies were getting low (I eat and drink A LOT) and it costs a fortune once you’re anywhere along the great ocean road. (We spent over $100 on water alone)
