Started at 5:30am BST from the John Bunyan Statue in Bedford. Friends waved me off as I set off on the John Bunyan Trail in a clockwise loop. My attempt was solo run and self-supported so I was carrying a race pack with all the food I would need, emergency kit (foil blanket, spare layer, rain jacket, head torch, first aid kit, phone) and a litre of water, with the capacity to carry up to 2 litres total if necessary.
Weather in the early morning was cool and damp, but not raining. After 9am the sun came out and the temperatures rose significantly.
The only re-supplies needed along the route were water and other drinks. I refilled my water flasks and bought drinks from villiage stores in Harlington and Ampthill, from a Public House (Tre Fratelli, Woodend) and from an outside tap on a residential property on the trail.
The day in general went very well. No serious issues or setbacks. There were a few incorrect path choices at various points which required back-track on to the official marked trail.
Regarding the GPX file, please note that my Garmin Fenix 3 was in UltraTrac mode to conserve battery life.
I completed the loop, returning to the John Bunyan statue. 85.1 miles according to the watch, 16hrs 21mins 20secs.
