Olivia Amber and I linked up to shrink the gap between the men's and women's FKT up Granite Peak via the Mystic Lake trailhead by combining elements of the existing men's and women's FKT routes. We opted for our own version of the Fish Creek route used for the current men's FKT, taking the most direct bushwack route up to the plateau and descending via Phantom Creek trail, following the return used on the current women's FKT. We started at 4:30am in effort to beat the heat and additional summit parties. We made decent time up the bushwack despite some cobweb facials and a weak headlamp but hit the plateau just after sunrise on what turned out to be a hot bluebird day. We grabbed some water on the plateau, and then headed up to Tempest before hooking up to Granite Peak! We climbed the upper mountain without any ropes or technical gear, scrambled in our running shoes, and were selective with our route finding to avoid major exposure when possible. A quick summit high five and we headed back down the mountain. We definitely put our heads down on the way back to move with purpose across the plateau and to the top of Phantom Creek Trail before cruising back down to the parking lot. We fueled mostly with gels and Hawaiian rolls with cheddar cheese, which hit the spot. We had a 10/10 day and were psyched to cut ~2 hours off the current women's time. We both agreed this route can (and should) be done even faster on the right day and hope lots of other women get after it! Although we carried all of our own food, water, and equipment and received no assistance during the effort, we did have a film crew on the plateau and summit documenting the project and hence to avoid any ambiguity, we are submitting the FKT as supported.  However, we did not receive any support beyond some loud cheering and encouragement from the film crew and other parties encountered along the way.
