Pre-Race & Nutrition

  • Preparation: The week prior to the attempt, I focused on improving metabolic efficiency by fasting until 11:00 AM most days. The Friday before, I scouted the blue and red trails used for the FKT to ensure I could follow the markers and stay on course. I had missed a couple of turns during the scout run, but I successfully corrected those mistakes during the actual attempt.
  • Breakfast: Two hours before starting, I had overnight oats prepared with almond milk, chia seeds, blueberries, coconut flakes, and creatine, along with a cup of coffee.
  • Mid-Race Fuel: For fuel during the run, I carried eight Oreo cookies and consumed six of them, eating about one cookie every 10 minutes. I also carried 500 mL of water with electrolytes.

Gear

  • Footwear: Altra running shoes with a double-sock system to prevent blisters.
  • Eyewear/Documentation: I wore a pair of Ray-Ban Stories to document the entire attempt. 

I parked at the Morrow Pavilion, Green Lane Park lot and set off at around 6:10 AM. 

The course is divided into two distinct parts. The first half is more challenging, featuring technical trails and the majority of the climbing. The second half opens up and is significantly more runnable.

The weather was near-perfect at 40°F, which played a huge factor in my ability to maintain a strong pace without overheating.

I successfully beat the previous FKT by approximately 3 minutes and 46 seconds.
