I grabbed a few snickers bars and headed out early on this run to try to beat the heat as much as possible.... The ascent is pretty steep in some places but i was able to run about 80% of the time. Once you reach the Nat. Park things get confusing, the trail starts at the cell tower up the concrete steps. I missed the summit on the way out but got some great views along the JR O'neal trail and the south trail, after about .6 mile out you link up with the north trail to head back out. This trail gets a lot more rugged and thick with vegetation and downed leaves, hard to really run much of it for me. Be aware of spider webs on the trail, i got a bunch of bites from small spiders, and disturbed one monster banana spider (see photo) On the way back i found some signs pointing to the summit but once you get there there is only a bench and a concrete footing for what maybe used to be a marker, no view or sign at the summit. I made it back down the final trail of the Nat. Park and then booked it back down the road. Not my fastest effort but a really kick ass 9 mi run with incredible views. Finished it off with a long swim to cool down.
