Overall went well. Started from Del Valle, arrived about 7:20, and started run at 7:50am to avoid the heat and direct sun. Big vert the first half, the vast majority of the climbing comes before mile 8 or so. Refilled on water at Maggie's Half Acre, and again near the end at the backpacking camp in Sunol. The water was interesting, because there was enough along the route to easily resupply. The spigots said they should be treated, but none of the map literature said that was required, so I just drank it and hoped for the best. The route down into Sunol was incredibly annoying. Rather than taking nicer wide, runnable trails, this route goes on very steep cow paths that are not enjoyable.
Really awesome views and special to be so far out in the middle of nowhere. Didn't see any runners, but saw some hikers and backpackers. It's wildflower season, so the colors were nice. Great day out! I want to do the full 26 mile version next time.
