After shuttling cars, Brian Martin and I (Peter Hubbard) started our FKT attempt at the western terminus of the NCDRT at the intersection of the Illinois Prairie Path (IPP) and the new Munger Road extension of the NCDRT on a Monday morning in December. A light breeze, a manageable pace and 37 degree weather meant no need for water or fuel. Brian kept the pace honest in the last couple miles as we hit an arbitrary finish time of 2:30 (rounded down). The NCDRT passes through beautiful forest preserves that we like to frequent on runs and family hikes, and I frequently use it to connect a mixed-surface gravel ride, but neither of us had run the entire route before. The miles clipped by and navigation was aided by fairly frequent NCDRT road signs. We lost just over a minute at the train crossing in Roselle, but otherwise had fairly flawless execution. The Chicago suburbs, and DuPage County especially, has an extensive trail network and hopefully this submission raises awareness to this particular path.
