This is a great route starting in Woodstock, then running over the Massanutten mountains and down into Ft. Valley and back. It's a beautiful route that runs the length of Woodstock Tower Road with beautiful scenery, nature, and wildlife along the course. This is a route I had wanted to try for quite some time, so it was cool to finally do it.

I started off at 7:00am on the morning of 11/15/25. There was a little light rain coming down at the start, which was nice. But otherwise, the weather was perfect today. The late October and early November time is perfect for doing this run with the fall colors.

The route starts/ends at the large Woodstock Rotary Club sign on the intersection of Main St. and Fairground Rd. From there the route takes you over towards Woodstock Tower Road and the start of the first climb into the George Washington National Forest and up Woodstock Tower Road. Once at the top there's a nice long descent into the beautiful town of Ft. Valley. When you arrive at Ft. Valley Road, make a quick right and end at the Ft. Valley Country Store. I just ran to the front of the store, snapped a quick selfie and started back. If you need to resupply fluids or food here, you certainly could, just check the store hours.

The route goes back up Woodstock Tower Road. There is a nice creek to run along as you climb back over the mountain, once  you reach the top again you can head back down into Woodstock to finish the run.

The route consists of mostly gravel road, with some paved roads as you get closer to Woodstock and Ft Valley. There is only a short section of sidewalk on Main St. in Woodstock The vehicle traffic is minimal on Woodstock Tower Road, but be careful, nonetheless.

The run was unsupported. I ran the full course solo and took everything I needed: 3 liters of water, 3 20 oz bottles of Tailwind, 4 Taco Bell bean burritos (I'm training for the Taco Bell DC 50k in 2 weeks). I ate one burrito per hour and that went well. I took 4 gel packs but didn't use them.
