I started my attempt from the church of Stala in the early morning to avoid the summer heat as much as possible. Since everyone running/hiking this route is allowed to refill on water, I brought only two 500 ml soft flasks of water. I had a water purifying filter on one of them to be able to resupply when passing a lake/stream. As nutrition I used only power bars and gels that I carried in my running vest.

The first 45 k was pretty nice running with a mix of gravel/tarmac roads close to each of the churches and some kilometres of trail running in the middle of each section of the route. The most boring section was between the church of Röra and the church of Torp, this section was all tarmac and gravel roads. The best section was between the church of Långelanda and the church of Stala, which had a good portion of technical trail and a lot of altitude gain. In hindsight I should have started with this part of the route instead of finishing with it. Trying to finish strong when already exhausted and during the mid day heat was just not happening for me, I settled with just surviving.

Several sections of the route had parts that missed, or had to long distance between, the route markings. It would not have been possible to follow the route without a map (I used the digital one from Pilgrimsleden Orust - Vandringsled). Even so, I got some bonus kilometres from missing route markings, where I had to double back to pick up from badly marked intersections.

Overall it was an exciting adventure and I had to dig deep the last 25 k. I am really satisfied to have reached my goal of doing it in under 10 hours, despite taking some wrong turns giving extra distance.
