This was my very first solo ascent of a 6000m mountain! I had climbed once before with a friend so I felt confident about the route and what to expect. This was a self supported effort (carried food, water, crampons, ice axe, helmet, etc) from the refuge at the bottom of basecamp to the summit and back. My watch died at 2:33 minutes in (blue triangle of doom- still trying to figure that out). Luckily, I had my InReach but it was on from 1:50. I did not start until 2:10 am. I also left it running once I got back to camp. I have submitted my track from when I realized my watch was doomed and started recording on my phone. ANYWAY, The route is all rock until campo alto (~2K in), after passing the abandoned refuge, just stay to the right at each fork in the path. You will pass a couple of small refuges at campo alto before hitting the glacier. The path is well booted at this point in the season and easy to follow.  There is a nice false flat at the Argentine camp followed by a steep climb via the "little shovel." There is another false flat and then the "big shovel," a series of zigzags that takes you up to to the summit. I got stuck behind a couple of elephant trains on the way up. In total, it took me 3 hours and 56 minutes to ascend. Sunrise was insanely beautiful. 2 hours and 2 minutes to send down to the refuge. Ice axe was needed for the little shovel and the last bit of the climb just before the summit. Can't wait to see some other people get out there and totally crush this route! It's beautiful and fun! Please keep in mind if you are using my GPX track that crevasses will change with the weather and the season!
