I ran the Duck River loop counterclockwise and took the lower route like previous runners. My Suunto read 19.1 miles once the loop was complete.
I was looking to change up the scenery for my long run and my friend told me about this route. It definitely did not disappoint. The route stays close to the river the entire time. The leaves have finally changed colors and have fallen on the trail making it difficult to see roots and rocks. I'd say this is a pretty smooth and fast route, however, I can be clumsy and managed to fall several times. :-)
I honestly didn't think I could make this run a FKT but after mid-way through I decided to hang in there a bit longer and see what my legs could do. I carried 2 liters of water in my vest with Skratch Labs mix and two Honey Stinger gels. I hope to see another female attempt this route soon!
