Such a terrific run! Started the run at 7:05 from Rainbow point. I started my GPS watch a bit before the 'segment' start just to provide some buffer. The route was very easy to follow, minus some washes that the trail was wiped out in. I got turned around at mile 2.5 for a minute or two, but found my way to the trail. There was maybe one other spot later on, maybe mile 7ish, that I also got a little turned around. Aside from that, the route is well-marked or easily defined. I was expecting the weather to be warmer than it was and maybe over did the sodium concentration in my packs, so I wasn't quite as happy on some of the climbs between miles 12-22. I encountered more sand than I was expecting in the first 18 miles. But the consolation prize was I saw no one but my husband (who was crewing) for about 18 miles. So that was terrific. The park was pretty crowded in all the normal areas, Queens Garden zone being the most populated. It was such a wonderful time (though hard) to run through such a spectacular place. This run was also part of my duathlon attempt. I kept my watch going until I reached the car where the bike was at Fairyland TH. I tried trimming the GPS, but the Strava GPS will show the entire recording to the car.
It's surprising that more people are attempting this route. It's incredibly easy in terms of logistics and a super runnable route.
