After a cold front swept in late Friday night, the morning started very chilly. It was about 7 degrees Celcius and it was tough to get warm. After reaching the Kahler Asten I moved north to go into the first downhill section. In the valleys the temperature was a lot better, since there wasn't so much wind. After 17K I reached the first check-point in Siedlinghausen, where I was met by my support-crew. I sat down for 7 minutes to gain some strength and get some food and a light massage. Then it was another 17.6K to the next check-point, slightly off the route in Hildfeld. Again I took another 7 minutes to relax and change into dry socks. Then came a short section of about 6K with a very steep climb and descent. I was met by my crew again in Elkeringhausen, where I got my first pacer for one of the tougher sections. Two steep hills directly following each other. Things started to go south with my stomach, so I spend quite a lot of time walking. After 1 hour 42 minutes I arrived at Zuschen, where I sat down and had a longer break to change shoes and get a slightly longer massage. After 13 minutes I started making my way for Mollseifen with a fresh pacer. The very long climb was taking it's toll, But going back down we managed to get a good pace going. I had another break (my fifth), got a new pacer and had a nice downhill section to get warm again. Unfortunately it began to rain so I had to put a lot of effort into staying warm. After the descent there came a long climb, first up to Hoheleye and then going north across Langewiese up to the Kahler Asten. I had a short break, because I could not make the 10 hour limit anymore and decided to aim for 10 hour 30 minutes. All my pacers ran with me the final stretch to Winterberg, backtracking the X13 I took earlier the day to get back to the marketplace in Winterberg.
