I started just after 4.15 pm on Friday 10th July in Hamstreet, Kent at the start of the Greensand Way. I was fully self supported, only resupplying with water which I had left at Hambledon, Holmbury St Mary, Reigate, Oxted, One Tree Hill, Linton and Pluckley. The first night was pretty uneventful, I felt ok and apart from a couple of navigation mistakes (the biggest of which was nettlestead) I was on track. I used both a headtorch and an ultraspire waist light in the dark and the waist light really helped. Was great to see the sunrise on the escarpment and get past redhill onto the section I had recce'd. My friends Martin Peck and Jude Palmer met me in Dorking, Jude ran with me till Westcott and Martin to Holmbury. Chris Kilsby ran a few miles with me through westcott and Chris Finill met me on Holmbury hill and ran from there to Hascombe. I was really struggling by this time and the climb up the Devil's punchbowl went on forever, as did the convoluted route down to Haslemere. Jude and my family met me at the finish and transported me home.
