On May 20th I ran my unsupported FKT on this loop of Texel. I took the train up to Den Helder and the ferry from there to Texel in the morning.
For water I used public water taps as can be found on the Dutch water access website: https://drinkwaterkaart.nl/waar-kan-ik-gratis-water-tappen/
I started the route from the ferry landing on Texel and decided to run clockwise, as this has the relatively harder section along the beach at the start and then the easy mostly asphalt section as the second half. I was still feeling the effects of my FKT on the Malerweg and subsequent food poisoning earlier in the month and was missing the strength to make any kind of speed along the beach section. And despite the food going in incredibly well, up to 400 kcal per hour, I felt myself running out of steam on the second half rather quick.
I found the western section along the beach by far the most enjoyable section of this route, and the eastern asphalt section rather boring. Though I imagine that eastern section would be far more enjoyable had it been low tide and the wadden (tidal flats) had been visible. Overall though, I think the regional hiking trail would have made for a more enjoyable loop around the island, as it dips in and out of the dunes on the western section, and visits the villages on the way back instead of just following the asphalt bike paths along the dike.
