John Martin who originally set the FKT told me this route existed and that I should do it. This past Saturday I was on my way up north and had time for short trail run so I decided to give this a go. Arrived at the Black Bear Mountain trailhead, and decided that VJ's were going to be a good idea with all the rain we've had recently. I only brought one bottle of gatorade and 1 gel as it's a very short route. They were definitely a good choice especially on the climb and downhill. There was more standing water than I have ever seen on this trail previously so feet were wet within the first 1/2 mile. Set a PR on the climb in just about 25 mins and change, so I knew I was on pace to break John's attempt although with the wet terrain and an ankle I don't fully trust to bomb down mountains like I used, I knew I wouldn't be setting a PR on the decent so I tried to keep moving best I could through the more technical steep sections and then I was able to open up a little more after that section. Felt stronger on this attempt than I thought but also still room for improvement for me and still a soft enough time it can easily be broken. Go get it!
