The Brasov Twin-Peaks route links two iconic massifs above Brașov: Postăvaru Peak (1799 m) and Piatra Mare Peak (1844 m)—both offering steep climbs, rugged trails, and panoramic views over the Carpathians and surrounding valleys. Postăvaru is popular with skiers in winter, while Piatra Mare is known for its remote feel, the Tamina Gorge, and sweeping ridgelines.
I set out early, knowing heat would be a factor. I carried just 1 liter of water, planning my refueling points carefully. The first major refill was at the Tamina waterfall, a refreshing stop after the long downhill from Postavaru Peak and on the start of the climb to Piatra Mare. Later, I topped up again on the Familial Road trail in Piatra Mare and caught water at two mountain springs in the last 10 km, which were absolute lifesavers.
Despite the heat building steadily through the day, I stayed on pace and pushed hard. The final kilometers were brutal—the sun was relentless and the legs heavy—but I could feel the sub-6 dream still alive. Seeing the clock tick in at 05:50 (goal was 6:15) gave me a deep sense of satisfaction. Planning, pacing, and knowing the terrain made all the difference.
