Took this route to the top of Rose Peak via the Ohlone trail and Jackson Grade. It's not exactly the same as the route posted, but it's a little bit longer with the same vert, and the existing route was closed due to the recent rains. I figure going 4 minutes faster (than the fastest time on Strava) over a slightly longer distance is worth it, but if not, I'll just have to go back when there's some better weather!
It's a fire road pretty much the whole way. First 6 miles is a relatively steady climb. Better runners than I would've been able to run most of it. Took a little under 2 hours to reach the summit, and immediately turned around. Though it's relatively steep, I was able to put up some decent splits on the descent. Would love to see an elite runner put up a sub-3 hour time on this route since it's one of the toughest summits in the Bay Area.
Oh, also the water was turned off at Boyd Camp, which is something I should've checked before going! I had just enough to make it back to the car with only minor dehydration issues.
