Decided 5 days ago to give a try to a new route and find this one on the FKT website. No taper or change to weekly mileage prior.
Started conservatively and ran by feel with the Garmin on map mode only. Managed to achieve a negative split with the last quarter faster than the first all of this with temperatures heating up. Overall happy with the execution, I felt really good and positive most of the way, some cramps in the last 5k but nothing unmanageable.
This attempt was unsupported, I left with tailwind and gels and 4 bottles. I only refilled water at public water fountains and public toilet taps.
I have had a few unsuccessful challenges this past year, it was good to eventually finished the year on a positive note. I took the learnings from the unsuccessful longer attempts early in the year into this year so not everything was lost ?
