I've just completed the Greensand Way in the UK for a new fastest known time for self supported. I did this with Rosanna Kuit so we have bagged the male and female record jointly at 59 hrs 54 mins and 11 seconds. I've actually beaten my own record from 6 years ago .
We encountered a couple of diversions in Kent necessary due to crop spraying of orchards but stayed true to the route and avoided the 2 'greensand way links' that hook up with the north downs way at Oxted and Thursley as they were not part of the original book or trail.
The previous record was 4 days set by myself and David Harvey, Claire Turner and Dan Ertato in May 2012 . Details of the blog are here http://greensandway2012.blogspot.com/
Rosanna and I took this on during a heatwave in the UK so the high temperatures and high humidity made this really tough. Details of the new FKT and blog are here http://airlandandsea.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-greensand-way-fastest-known-time.html Here's an exerpt:
"During a heatwave in July, Rosanna and I set a new Fastest Known Time on the 108 mile long Greensand Way. We invented 'Ice Hats', tackled apple orchards that disorientate you and leave you facing the wrong way, ate at the most haunted pub in Britain where the Darling Buds of May was filmed and for the second time on this trail enjoyed the hospitality of a Cricket Club."
My GPX files are attached with heart rate and cadence data etc. You'll note at Haslemere High Street at the finish I accidentally left my watch running when I walked off to get the parked car! We also have Rosanna's data available too but she ran low on battery so for some of it it was running on power save so the refresh rate was much lower and less accurate. Rosanna and I never left each others sight for the entire run.
Anyone wishing to have a go is welcome to get in touch with me about it and I also have a very detailed kit list blog available here http://airlandandsea.blogspot.com/2018/02/multi-day-ultra-running-gear-kit-list.html and a wild camping guide here http://airlandandsea.blogspot.com/2018/06/stealth-camping-wild-camping-guide-for.html
I have now completed the entire Greensand Way at least 3 times so happy to take queries from people etc .
