My boyfriend and I decided to go for the mixed-gender FKT during a long run. We wanted to get an early start before the heat, although we ran into a slight hiccup when I went out to plant water bottles and the gate to the wildlife refuge was closed because it was before sunrise. Once the sun was up we successfully planted bottles at parking lots 3 and 5, which was very helpful later in the run when the temperature rose. We started at the Plum Island Point parking lot at the north end of the island, ran down until we touched the Sandy Point State Reservation sign in the lot at the south end, and then ran back to the starting point (with the water bottles). We each took two gels during the run. A very scenic run with friendly birders and surprisingly few biting insects!
