The route is not like the official 56km and 2800m elevation, it's more like 59 und 3300m.
To do this route unsupported, you need much water to carry, possibilites to refill are lmited and not that trustworthy.
I would have like to start at the parkinglot at the start of the route but these does not allow overnight parking, so i needed to find another one. The next one on the Hinterstoder Main Street called "Schiederweiher 2" was the best to find, but i had to run back to "Schiederweiher 1" to start the official "Welser Höhenweg" route.
The first 4k were pretty flat along Schiederweiher, following was the uphill to Prielschutzhaus mountain hut, from there on i really knew why the mountain ridge is translated "dead ridge", i saw no vegetation for a solid time stretch. There i was surprised with wind an solid hour of rain, i wasn't expecting that, but above 2000m weather ain't really predictable.
After many ups and downs i arrived at Pühringerhütte mountain hut and scenic Elmsee Lake nearly 5 hour on tour. The next not that technical 3 hours on course brought me throut great views and beautiful alps to the huge Applehaus mountain hut, which is exactly the have way point of the whole thing. Soon after that, i arrived at the amazing Wildensee Lake as always companied from Mt. Rinnerkogel in the background.
The following 8k to Mt. Großer Schönberg are the toughest of the whole route, really rough technical terrain, not good (sometimes just bad) marked and some scrambling was involved. From that mountain top, i've had an amazin view over the whole Salzkammergut area. From there were still 20k left, but i knew it was just downhill and flat to the end.
The more than 1300m straight technical downhill weren't easy 11 hours in, especially as was running out of water. Luckily i found a public tap on the downhil and arrived at Rettenbach Alp 1,5 hours later. From there i had an amazon sunset in front of me, while running to the trainstation of the city of Bad Ischl, the official end point.
