I've been wanting to do the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail in its entirety for a while now. I've run it in sections for years. 6/14/20 was a really cool and low humidity morning so I figured to give it a go even though it was not in the plans heading into the week. I parked on Denniston Rd. around 8am and got moving by 8:15. I felt pretty good out the gate, and did my best to take it easy and relax through the majority of it. There is a bridge out between mile 4 and 5 that made me bushwhack down to the street and back up to the trail - cost me about 90 seconds - then a quick bathroom break around mile 12. Otherwise, the pace was very consistent. I took a pack with me and ended up taking in 16oz of water with nuun and 4 gels at miles 4, 10, 15, 18. They are redoing the trail just north of the Rosendale Tressel and the maps haven't caught up with that yet. My legs started to feel pretty heavy around mile 18, but it never got too bad. Finished in 2:29:36 ahead of the previous record of 2:42:38. This was a great way to cap off a 74 mile week. I hope to give this another go at some point!
