Thank you to Kaydee Barker for the route.
This is a beautiful run and so amazing to be able to do a linear route and take the train back!
I had a knee op recently and really need to get a run under my belt just to feel like I can actually do this again. I lacked the fitness, had no route knowledge so I made a few mistakes - even though I had the route on my watch and know the area well! No excuses really. But I think this is a route I will come back to again and again with it being on my doorstep - it's a variation of what I would normally do here as I'd normally be doing a circular route back home.
Today I set off in the rain from Windermere train station not knowing if it was possible to complete - I had noted all the bail out options in case my knee started hurting too much. As I ascended through the clag to the highest point of the route on High Street - I thought to myself now comes the hard part - for the knee. However, given that in any of the 3 directions - bailing west to get the bus on the Kirkstone, turning back to go home or moving onwards to finish were all downhill the choice seemed simple!!!
Actually the knee was fine and the descent was magical and finally the rain stopped - although I can't say the sun came out I could make out a glow from it through the clouds.
Great timing - 20 minutes before the train back so I had time to buy myself a chicken burger and fries from Macdonalds next door.
