Decided to check out this route while traveling through the area. Fun mix of technical single track, slickrock, fast double track, and great scenery. Weather was perfect, 50 degrees and sunny. There was some snow in shady spots, but it didn't really affect me. As has been mentioned in previous FKTs, navigation was tricky. Probably lost at least 3 minutes to navigation errors. Opted not to use poles despite the recommendations of using them by previous times. Recent precipitation made the sandy sections where poles would be most helpful, more compacted and easier to run.
Ran this mostly off of ski fitness and on tired legs, having done a couple big days on skis leading up to the effort. I think with fresh legs, running fitness, and familiarity with the route, I could cut off at least 10 minutes from this time. We'll see if I ever make it back out here. Maybe if someone beats this time.
I started and finished at the fence on Short Creek, same spot as the previous men's times, although the woman's FKT appears to start at Squirrel Canyon Trailhead. I went with the same route as the men's FKT, as that was the record I was going for. A decision should be made on the start and end spot. My vote is for Short Creek because it is fun sprinting down the creek at the end, and it also cuts off a couple short and steep hills.
