I was feeling restless after a failed NOBO, supported FKT attempt on the Appalachian Trail. Decided to try a self-supported style even though it was a little late in the season. I ressupplied myself at Neel Gap and Fontana Village. It rained the entire time I was on trail. The nettle was taller than me, and it was technically bushwhacking through the more remote sections of trail. The nettle grabbed at my feet and tore at my skin. Still beautiful, as always on the AT. I was behind my schedule but still on track to set a Northbound record. Ultimately I stopped short of the entire trail because I realized I could plan this better and make things easier on myself. I was carrying a lot of food and pack was too heavy, therefore slowing my pace considerably. I should have resupplied more frequently. All in all it was a fun time, but late summer trekking on the AT is akin to hiking in the rainforest. It will try to dissolve you. My feet were barely hanging in there!
