This FKT attempt featured a very large black bear in my path at mile 8. I was on pace for 3 hours, but I was a bit rattled, and walked slowly for quite a ways after this.
i covered the first 3.2 miles of climbing in 1:05. Turning on to the Red Rock trail I didn’t realize I still had a couple more miles of climbing, with a little downhill included. Finally, at mile 5 I started descending. At 6.4 I hit the final intersection. It looked like I would hit 3 hours. Until the bear lunges out of the bushes about 25 feet ahead of me. He had to have been 600 pounds. I waited a while until I knew he was gone. I never did get up to a good running pace again since I was pretty shaky, so my pace was way behind where I wanted to be.
Didn't see a single soul on the trails. Wonderful peace and quiet.
