At our BXL Run Crew runs, Patrick and I both expressed interest in completing the Promenade Verte this summer so we made plans to do so together. We met in Foret on the morning of July 20 for our Green Walk attempt. My husband, Cliff, snapped a few pictures of us and we were on our way to the start of the Promenade Verte! We carried all the essentials with us and used the public fountains in the parks along the way to refill on water. We had both run parts of the route before, so that prior knowledge, along with our GPS watches and printed maps for back-up, allowed us to navigate the course fairly smoothy. We made a few stops along the way for navigation checks and to eat and drink. We both enjoyed the clockwise route that ended with the shady and fun, yet somewhat hilly, trails of the Forêt de Soignes and Uccle. We finished the Promenade Verte course with an elbow bump and continued towards our neighborhood, ending with a personal best in distance for both of us at an outdoor bar in Foret to enjoy a cold pilsner to celebrate.
