I had made it a goal of mine to do a run across the state of Vermont, from the New York/Vermont border to the Vermont/New Hampshire border. Not just an average long run across the state, but one that paid particular homage to what the great state of Vermont has to offer. While it is certainly possible to come up with routes that are quicker and shorter, this was the most feasible route I could come up with that met my criteria of: 1) Summits at least one high peak. 2) Uses the AT/LT in a significant way. 3) Passes through at least one historic downtown.
With this being an open route, I am curious to see where other athletes could potentially take this. One potential route I would be particularly intrigued by, would be to avoid the segment of road I took (Route 4) after coming down Killington and continuing on the AT until reaching the NH border, which adds a significant amount of elevation gain and mileage.
Finally, I'd like to thank my support crew of one, Addie Casali, who waited for me at designated aid spots, well into the darkness of night to ensure I was well fed and hydrated.
