This was the same south to north point to point route on the Natchaug Trail (CT) that Dan Bates established on 04/19/2020. The trail starts at Goodwin State Forest and ends at the junction with the Nipmuck Trail. Dan did it as part of the longer Nipmuck - Natchaug - Air Line Loop (CT). The Connecticut Forest & Park Association Walk Book says the route is 17.6 miles but my GPS track measured it as 16.9 miles with about 2,100 feet of elevation gain. The trail is typical for a Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail in this part of the state with lots of rock gardens, roots, and rugged terrain that undulates. Like the Nipmuck, it is maintained with loving care by NipMuck Dave Raczkowski a long time CFPA Trail Maintainer and former Race Director of the NipMuck Trail Marathon.

It was a cold, but lovely day for a run on this great trail. The guys in Connecticut are stepping up the FKT game and establishing new routes and better times before Ben Nephew drives south to take on some of these trails and crush our souls.
