I live in Williamsburg and I ran (but mostly walked) from New York City to Boston over the past few days. I started in Brooklyn on Thursday morning, went to the finish line for the New York City Marathon, and then went to the finish line for the Boston Marathon for a so-called "Finish Line to Finish Line" run. I arrived in Boston on Sunday morning, and so the total time was 75 h 55 m from Brooklyn and 74 h 40 m from the NYCM finish line. Total distance was a little over 220 miles.
Some notes:
-
I did this run self-supported, meaning that I did not have anyone come support or crew me. I was by myself for the entire run and bought food/water along the way.
-
The first 18 miles or so were all in New York City, close to 10% of the entire run!
-
I slept for about 3 hours in total (a rough estimate), split across lots of short naps along the way. I mostly slept by laying down on grass, benches, flat rocks, etc. None of my naps were particularly restful, but were helpful for getting a quick mental reset.
-
Originally, I was hoping to get to Boston late Saturday. The run ended taking a bit longer because:
-
I had a lot of leg and foot pain that I wasn't able to resolve or address effectively
-
It rained a lot in central MA on Saturday, so I spent a few hours trying to wait it out
-
The weather was really good on Thursday and Friday
-
-
-
I only brought about 2000 calories with me initially, so I had to buy a lot of food along the way. This included:
-
Taco Bell (Beefy 5-Layer Burrito)
-
McDonald's (McChicken)
-
Chick-fil-A (Chicken Sandwich, Cookies & Cream Milkshake)
-
Burger King (Egg-Normous Burrito)
-
Domino's (Medium 1-Topping Pizza with Chicken and Green Peppers)
-
Wendy's (Biggie Bag, which included free soda refills)
-
Dunkin' (Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich)
-
Cumberland Farms (Lots of soda and snacks)
-
Overall, this was a fun and memorable adventure!
