Starting from Conwy and heading south instead of the traditional Cardiff and north approach, I made good use of the long daylight hours keeping on the move between 4:30am till 10pm most days. The first few days across Snowdonia were hot and hydration proved tricky. The middle days cooled slightly allowing for some good running days until rain returned and a quad injury slowed my pace in the Brecons, although I shortened my breaks to maintain the distance. I aimed to complete 3 stages a day, taking on a little more at Dylife to help break down the longer stages and keep me on track. Wet nights and constant showers over the final few days led to some pretty nasty trench foot but overall the body held up well. What a route though. Stunningly beautiful and so quiet. Apart from the hotspots around Pen Y Fan and Snowdon I would often go hours without seeing anyone having the mountains all to myself- very magical. As batteries and water played havoc with my navigational aids as I came into Cardiff the finale was a bit of a odd climax, but Cardiff castle was a very welcome sight!
