Having hiked this trail twice, I knew the route well and set out from the Gilbert Tract parking lot for a clockwise loop around Cranberry Lake. I prefer to start in the woods and save the road sections for the end. I started later than planned because it was a cool and frosty morning. It was 35 degrees when I started around 8:30am, but it warmed up to 55 degrees by mid afternoon and was a beautiful, sunny fall day. The trail was in great shape aside from some flooding around Olmstead Pond and the beaver dams before Wanakena. I refilled my water bladder once around mile 25 from a fast flowing stream (I carried a filter but ended up not using it). Otherwise I only stopped twice for bio breaks and once to snap a quick photo by the CL 50 sign in Wanakena, so I ended up getting back to the car before 6pm. It was the prefect day to run a great trail!
