Report

The Wiradjuri Trail is a 42.88km loop encircling the city of Wagga Wagga, NSW, primarily following the Murrumbidgee River and weaving through bushland, farmland, levee banks, and urban segments. The trail has undulating terrain and mixes fire roads, singletrack, bike path, and some brief road sections. It’s signposted intermittently but requires route familiarity or GPS backup in parts.

I followed the established clockwise direction starting from the Gobbagombalin Bridge, keeping true to the intended loop without shortcuts or deviations.

I set out to establish the Fastest Known Time (FKT) for the full Wiradjuri Trail loop, running it in a single push. The goal was to set a benchmark time for future attempts and help put this beautiful, lesser-known trail loop on the FKT map.

I ran the loop unsupported.

  • Gear Carried: vest, nutrition, 2L hydration.

  • Fueling: 80g carbs/hr via gels + drink mix.

  • Conditions: Mild start, warmer finish. Trail was dry, with some exposed sections where heat built up.

  • Navigation: Used a pre-loaded GPX on my watch. No major navigation issues, but signage can be sparse in some bushland sections.

I maintained a steady effort throughout, surging in runnable sections and staying efficient on inclines and technical turns.

This loop surprised me, it has a bit of everything: riverside cruisers, bush single track, some punchy climbs, and long flat runnable sections. It’s also a great way to explore the full perimeter of Wagga Wagga in one go.

My hope is this FKT inspires others to attempt it, go faster, and experience what the Wiradjuri Trail has to offer.
