It was a beautiful day to be on Pine Mountain! This route turned out to be much tougher than anticipated due to the rocky terrain, down trees, and recent wildfire that went through a portion of the route. (I could still smell charred trees). However, the route is very well marked and the views are amazing, especially looking north off the ridge. I saw three bears near the beginning of the run, several redheaded woodpeckers, and a few grouse that sprung up and scattered as I got close. What I didn’t see was anyone else on the trail during the FKT or on my return back. If anyone else attempts this route, I would recommend doing it during the winter months when the trial does not get overgrown, and paying a visit to Kingdom Come State Park. It is a hidden gem!
