Had an incredible journey on the NCT 100 in the Allegheny National Forest. Starting around 6pm Friday June 12 with all my gear needed for this unsupported 100 mile journey. The first night was easy going. Trail conditions perfect and water plentiful. I even found a few sections to be quite runable. My goal was to do 10 miles every 3 hours. Saturday dawned clear skies and sun but humid. I knew to hit my mark I’d need to capitalize on any runnable sections before nightfall and the huge vertical and boulder fields that I would encounter that evening. Water became an issue as I pushed extremely hard and the heat built. Had epic views saw 3 black bear and several fawn whitetails. Surprisingly a lot of the smaller springs were running low as staying hydrated into the evening stayed my focus. The miles from 85-95 were leg burners as I pushed extremely hard to try to hit my 30 hour goal. I came close as I hit the trailhead a little after 1am. Excited to do what I did at my age of almost 58! Next year? Sub 30 is in reach! Great trail, primitive mostly unimproved but epic terrain! Loved it!
