Set off from the The Gun Public House in Newbury at 6.44am, and linked onto the trail from there. This was my start and finish location.
I was following a walk listed as a hiking route on Alltrails.com (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/england/berkshire/the-watership-down-walk), but I decided to run it as an out-and-back instead. Very runnable on a warm summer's day- I used trail shoes, but sturdy road running shoes would suffice. 75% farmer's tracks and public footpaths, 25% sharing quiet roads with cars and bikes. All food was kept on me (I used a trail vest, stocked with nuts, clif shot blokz and Nakd bars) and I ran with 2 x 500ml bottles of water. I filled up my bottles at the half way point from a mains tap in Whitchurch cemetery. However, I did stop at 2 pubs on the run to use the bathroom and to buy a can of Coke (no public toilets on route during lockdown restrictions), so I can't claim an unsupported effort. Very warm day- needed lots of water!
