The continuous swath of alpine terrain from Truchas Peak to Jicarita Peak always appealed to me and this route has grown on me. Having been convinced that starting on Trampas Peak would be a better strategy than to finish on it, it started to seem like a good idea to give this route another attempt. This does seem like the best way to go, even if I took some damage from a mishap with a downed tree and a hornet sting within the first five miles. It didn't feel like a high performance day but it was still a significant improvement. Over the course of the day moving solo, I encountered two hunters and a hiker on the trail below Trampas Lakes, a significant party at Trampas Lakes, two fellow peak baggers on Sheepshead, then many bighorn sheep and no humans along the remaining 25 miles.
The watch tallied 37.57 miles and 12,972 vertical feel on this outing. There seems to be a minor issue with the exported GPX data and the summit elevations all read low, but the latitudes and longitudes look correct.
The pictures are North Truchas Peak and a satellite peak to the left from Sheepshead Peak, plus a view of the main Truchas Peak group from just below the satellite peak.
Somebody please post a really fast time or I will likely feel compelled to add another feebly improved attempt in 2027!
